handmade_type

When I did graphics last year I had to make my own type, thought I'd put it on here... For the brief if you happened to be showing a more handmade style rather than something like the Designers Republic stuff we saw, you could quickly make your own font like this without having to spend hourrrrrs like those typographers do.

To create it I had to print off the whole alphabet 4 times, twice in upper and twice in lower case. I had to use an existing type face. I left the first two alphabets as they were, then used white gouache to blot out parts of the letters of the remaining two. I then had to choose a song lyric and write it copying from a combination of the standard letters, and the newly formed ones. It kinda relates to what Paul was saying about looking at the black/white space of the letters.

Because of the almost 'eroded' look of the letters I chose fitting song lyric, and also drew it out to represent the 'fading away' of the type. I haven't got a scanner so had to photograph the work then cut it all up so it looks pretty awful!
